Check out this morning's sunrise. It is one to remember.
Like the iPhone X better than I thought
I ordered an iPhone X and picked it up Friday. The Apple Store asked if I was excited and I told them no. I just figured why not. I signed up for the upgrade program and it is easy to get a new iPhone every year.
First impressions was how much smaller the iPhone X is vs. iPhone 6/7/8 Plus.
It was easy to set up the phone. Although the Verizon activation servers were hammered and I hit "try again" screens at least 3-5 times.
So how is it? The Facial ID takes a bit of time to get used to. But today figured I could pick up the phone. Swipe up immediately and in parallel facial recognition recognizes me. When I was holding up the phone waiting for facial recognition, then swiping up it felt much longer than touch id. Facial ID so far is way faster and more accurate than touch ID.
The main reason I wanted the iPhone X was for the facial recognition hardware to experiment with and to have the latest A11 processes for both ARKit and ML.
So how good is the camera? Well I took a picture of one of my favorite things. My pizza oven. :-) No it is not my favorite thing, but thought a flaming picture would be a good test.
Before I took the above picture I took another picture of the oven when it was cold. There is so much detail in this picture I was tempted to not use it. But all those details could useful if you took pictures for maintenance events.
Here is some roasted broccoli from the pizza oven.
It's cold here in Redmond and we got some snow.
We had our dog in the car and I bundled her up to keep her warm when we were out watching a high school football game. I think she was warmer in the car, then we were in the bleachers.
Actually I notice a bigger change switching to the iPhone X than I expected. It is fast and feels smooth using the UI.
Testing how fast I can post
I wrote about being able to use the iPad, IPhone and IOS 11 to blog http://www.greenm3.com/gdcblog/2017/10/23/updating-blogging-tools-with-ios-11
Curious what I could do at home with my home wifi which comprises 7 wi-fi access points so there is no dead zones including outside in front of the house, the back of house, down to my office, and down to beach house.
The picture went from my iPhone to my iPad as soon I sat down on iPad. Took the picture and posted below. Then cropped in close to show the rowers going by.
The Power of Images and Apple Workflow, communicating status
I have been meaning to play with Apple Workflow. https://workflow.is/
“You’re in control. For the first time.
Build your own workflows with a simple drag-and-drop interface. Mix & match hundreds of actions to create quick shortcuts, manage your media, share content, and much more.
It’s like making your own apps. But a million times easier.”
Apple bought the company earlier this year and I have been meaning to spend time getting my head wrapped about using it.
My wife is traveling and I wanted to let her know making breakfast and the dog (Bea) is in the kitchen with me. Below is gif created so fast it was maybe 15 seconds.
Taking three pictures seems like the right amount to show information and communicate so much.
After I shared this gif, I cut and pasted and sent it to two of my technical friends I met with earlier in the week who know i like to cook, have been to my house, and know I have a dog.
What was little surprise is one friend asked what the red thing is in the pan with the eggs. It is a temperature sensor for telling you when the eggs are soft, medium, hard. This image gave the status of cooking the eggs. Then my head started spinning what could be done in communicating operations with three pictures.
Time to experiment with others using this feature.
Yes my dog did get some of the bacon. :-)
Copper River Salmon season starts today, Eaglet delivers a fish to our back door
Today, May 15, 2015 is the start of Copper River Salmon season.
"Alaska Air Cargo is proud to deliver the largest catch of wild Copper River salmon from our namesake state to the masses here in Seattle and across the country," said Betsy Bacon, Alaska Air Cargo managing director. "As the salmon season gets into full swing, our team is prepared to continue to bring fresh Alaska salmon to restaurants and consumers in the Lower 48 and points beyond."
Copper River Salmon will be on the menu soon.
This morning I heard a thump out the door and looked out saw this fish.
An Eaglet (young eagle) had just flown by and being a youth was clumsy with his catch and dropped it. Luckily he/she didn't decide to try and fetch it back.
